Dry Brushing Instructions

We hope you enjoyed your spa treatment! Please take this brush to continue pampering your skin at home. Below are the benefits and directions on dry brushing at home.

The benefits of dry skin brushing include:

  • Dry body brushing helps shed dead skin cells (and encourages new cell renewal), which results in smoother and brighter skin. It can also help with any pesky ingrown hairs.

  • It assists in improving vascular blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. By releasing toxins, it encourages the body’s discharge of metabolic wastes.

  • Dry skin brushing rejuvenates the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings in the skin (and it feels pretty great, too!).

  • Dry skin brushing helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores.

Dry brushing at home: (recommend one to two times per week)

  • Start on dry skin before bathing.

  • Work in gentle circular, upward motions, then longer, smoother strokes.

  • Always begin at the ankles in upward movements towards the heart - the lymphatic fluid flows through the body towards the heart, so you must brush in the same direction.

  • Move up to the lower legs, thighs, stomach, back and arms. Be cautious of softer and sensitive skin around the chest and breasts, and never brush over inflamed skin, sores, sunburned skin, or skin cancer.

  • Your back is the only exception; brush from the neck down to the lower back.

  • Be sure to bathe afterward to wash away the dead skin cells and impurities.

  • Follow up with your favorite body moisturizer.

How to clean your dry brush: (recommended twice per month, depending on use)

  • Fill a bowl with water. The level of the water will depend on the height of your bristles. You want to be able to place your brush (bristles facing down) in the bowl of water, and wet only the bristles, not the wood!

  • Feel free to add essential oils such as Tea Tree oil. It will keep the bristles from drying out, and Tea Tree is naturally anti-bacterial, keeping your brush clean.

  • Place the brush in the bowl, bristles facing down. Move the brush around the water for one minute. Repeat but with only water, no oils.

  • Once you are done, place the brush bristles side down on a clean, dry towel. Avoid getting the wood wet, make sure the brush can fully dry before using.
